Why

Every person will at some stage have an experience with cancer – either through our own experience, a family member or someone we know. For the past 75 years, KWF Dutch Cancer Society has been making a difference for those whose lives have been touched by cancer. Not only do they fight this disease, but they also strive to ensure those living with cancer lead a better life.

What

14 years ago, Sammy Maters’ father passed away from cancer. As the number 7 was a prominent number in his father’s life, Sammy set out to raise €777 for cancer research. It’s also why Apolix donated such a specific amount.

Why

Every child deserves the opportunity to have a safe, healthy childhood. Currently in the Netherlands, there are over 400,000 children and young people who receive a form of youth aid annually, and this number is only growing.

Stichting Ub! organises projects, mentoring, and support programs – as well as donating toys and games – to help vulnerable children and young people develop in a safe, happy environment.

What

Most recently, Apolix donated €1,500 to buy a laptop for Nour, a young woman hoping to study and lift herself (and her family) out of their current situation. At only nine years old, Nour and her family had to flee from Aleppo, Syria.

Now, at the age of 21, she works hard to build her future and support her parents with a job. Apolix is proud to help where we can.

Why

Steunpunt Avalon was founded to support young people aged 15-25 in recovery from addiction and mental problems.

Engaging events, trips, and activities are organised every week to help bring the community together. From cooking and eating together, to group sessions and field trips, Steunpunt Avalon believe that making connections is the best starting point.

What

At Apolix, we believe in helping those who need it most, especially disadvantaged youth.

To support Steunpunt Avalon’s mission, we sponsored the activities program during the trip to the French Ardennes. We also provide much-needed funds to help continue the vital work of Avalon.

Why

The Rapenburg Race is an annual swimming competition in Leiden, Netherlands, that raises money for spinal cord injury research and quality of life improvement projects.

Every year, hundreds of people swim 800 metres through the most beautiful canal in the Netherlands all to raise money for those living with spinal cord injuries.

What

Apolix donated funds to help continue the vital research and work of the organisations specialising in spinal cord injuries.

Why

Seven Hills Foundation is a London-based charity raising funds to support primary school-level children at risk of poverty in the slum of Naguru in Kampala, Uganda.

Recently, they moved to a safer, bigger, and better-equipped location within the Naguru Slum – a private school ground where the children have access to classrooms, the sports pitch, and an office space.

What

Apolix donated €1,000 to help furnish and set up the new office space. This donation allows the office to be adequately stocked and refurbished.

The office space is crucial for the Seven Hills Foundation’s mission as children and caretakers can come for drop-in sessions during the week to discuss personal challenges or situations faced at home that may require additional support (e.g., due to witnessing or being victims of abuse, violence, or financial hardship).

Why

Regreener fights climate change by planting trees, protecting rainforests, and supporting vital climate projects.

They have a range of options from helping companies offset emissions to planting trees.

What

At Apolix we believe in investing in the future of our planet.

To date, Apolix has planted 90 trees and has had nine tonnes of carbon compensated – that’s the equivalent of nearly 8.5 flights between Amsterdam and New York CIty!

Why

Apolix believes in gender equality and empowering women in all areas of life, especially women in STEM.

In support of this, we donated to Women in Process Mining (WIPM), a community for women working in the industry to network, collaborate, and strengthen their leadership skills.

What

In sponsoring WIPM, we hope to encourage more women to contribute to the ongoing evolution of our industry.

We look forward to the day where the process mining industry has a 50:50 gender ratio!

Why

Goudse Mixed Hockey Club (GMHC) is a local club who believe that everyone, regardless of ability, age or gender, is welcome to play hockey.

GMHC also believe that active involvement and a good atmosphere are integral to their community which boasts 600 members.

What

Apolix sponsored GMHC to help ensure future players and members can continue to play in a fun, safe atmosphere.

Why

In the Gaza Strip, where a 16-year blockade has left the occupied Palestinian territory’s health system severely under-resourced, escalating hostilities with Israel are compounding an already dire situation.

Over 3 million people in the Gaza Strip and the West Bank need urgent humanitarian aid and protection.

What

Apolix donated vital funds to help provide food, water, clothing, and medicine to families and individuals caught in the catastrophic Hamas-Israel crossfire.

Why

Many children in the Netherlands don’t have the opportunity to play sports due to physical or financial challenges. Of the 109,000 children with a physical disability, 70% indicate that they are lonely.

IT4Kids strives to help vulnerable children play sport, socialise, and exercise. They collect used hardware from companies and donate the value, on behalf of the contributor, to charities committed to creating lasting opportunities for children to develop life skills like cooperation, respect, self-confidence, and discipline.

What

Amref Flying Doctors works tirelessly to ensure everyone, especially women and girls, have access to good health care. They work to improve the current health systems which frequently neglect or overlook women and young girls.

When we focus on improving health systems for women and girls, they are able to study, work, and withdraw themselves and their families from poverty.

What

Apolix believes in gender equality and empowering women in all areas of life. We also strongly believe in the power of education. In donating to Amref Flying Doctors, we hope to educate young women and girls so they might break free of the chains of poverty.

Why

Librae is a community dedicated to fostering gender equality among students in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering, Mathematics).

They work to empower female students with a support network of their peers, inspirational role models, and mentors.

What

Apolix is a committed partner of Librae as we believe in gender equality and supporting women in STEM.

Aside from donations, we also host workshops and networking nights led by our Apolians who are dedicated mentors in the Librae network.

Through supporting Librae, we hope to inspire future generations of women in STEM.

Why

On the morning of 28 June, the city of Rotterdam awoke to a smoke-filled sky as overnight, the creative hub of Keilewerf had burned to cinders.

More than 40 creatives and entrepreneurs lost their entire workplaces in the blink of an eye. For many, it was their only income and sense of community.

What

This cause hit close to home for us as it wasn’t long ago, in September 2019, that two hardworking entrepreneurs sat together in their university bedroom and created Apolix.

Therefore, in support of this devastating news, we donated much-needed funds to help the entrepreneurs get back on their feet.
