Apolian Spotlight : Jasper van Hattem

Hi Jasper, how did you come into with data and what made you fall in love with it?  

Hi! Honestly, I always have been intrigued by programming and data. I know it sounds a bit cheesy, but I’m not kidding when I tell you that I built my first PHP-website when I was 13. Ever since, I have been doing small side projects just to learn and develop.  

During uni, I noticed that I always really enjoyed the courses that involved data analysis in for example R (so I always was ‘that guy’ who did all the programming during group assignments…). This moved me towards studying Business Analytics & Management at RSM, which is a very analytical master. Haven’t regretted it since! 

You’ve been working at Apolix since April 2022, how has the process mining landscape changed since then? 

Over the course of a year, I must say it has changed quite a bit. First things first, I have had the chance to attend the Celonis Worldtour in Amsterdam and the Celonis Celosphere in Munich. During these events, a lot of new announcements were made like the Business Miner and Process Sphere that will for sure change the way we use process mining right now. 

In addition, I have seen many of our customers massively grow their process mining maturity in one year. Where Celonis often was considered an analytical tool at first, over time, it has been growing more and more into a true operational platform that enhances processes on a continuous basis. It has been very interesting to see customers adopt to that mindset as well.

Your job title is Value Manager, what does that exactly mean? 

Great question! It means that I am managing projects for our customers, and that I am responsible for the strategic positioning of Celonis to maximize its value. A lot of businesses spend a lot of money on dashboards and insights, but often the final (most important) step is overlooked: turning these insights into actions and impact. This is where Apolix comes in, and what explains my job title!   

What do you enjoy most about your job? 

Many things actually! First of all, I love working in a young and dynamic scale-up environment. It adds a lot more fun and excitement to the day-to-day work.  

Also, as a consultant, you’re balancing multiple projects at the same time. That perfectly aligns with me as a person, because I always like having a lot of variety and different things in my life. Working on multiple projects at the same time is therefore something I really enjoy as well.  

Last point I’ll mention (I’m sure I have many more!) is that I really enjoy the steep learning curve. Over the past 1+ year, I have seen a wide variety of companies, processes, and IT-systems from the inside. This allows me to learn very fast about what problems there are within businesses, and how to solve them the best.  

What is your favourite memory of Apolix?  

I’ll definitely go for our Morocco trip, where we spent a long weekend in a beautiful villa in Marrakesh. Not only was it a very nice place to visit, it was also a very good trip for bonding with the team.

What is something you are looking forward to in the future? 

Apolix is growing, and I’m very excited to see where we will be for example one (or three!) year(s) from now. I believe we haven’t even scratched the surface yet of what we could do, so I’m definitely looking forward to seeing future-Apolix!
